Motion Matching

Motion Matching is an advanced frame selection system that is often used for high-quality locomotion. It allows users to quickly create realistic, responsive animations from a wide variety of motion sources. Motion Matching stores motion data in a library and uses it to generate animations based on user-defined criteria.

This allows the user to create responsive animations without having to manually keyframe every action.

Epic Online Services

Epic Online Services is an open and modular suite of online gaming services from Epic Games that provides developers with the tools to build and manage online games, including matchmaking, lobbies, leaderboards, cloud saves, in-game purchases, and more. The services are designed to make it easier for developers to create, publish, and operate their games, allowing them to focus on creating great experiences for their players.

Game services enable developers to effortlessly release, validate, and scale their games to all platforms and reach players on the stores of their choice. Also, players are enabled to play with any friend on any device which results with a better experience and increasing engagement.

Metahuman

Metahuman is a powerful real-time cloud based character creation tool designed to help game developers quickly and easily create high-quality 3D characters. It provides a comprehensive suite of tools for creating fully rigged photorealistic realistic human characters.

Metahuman derives its data from real-world scans and your adjustments are constrained to fit within the limits of the examples in its database, so it’s simple to make physically plausible human characters. It also offers a wide palette of realistic skin tones and hair colors.

Characters made with Metahuman come with a full facial and body rig, animation and real-time ready.

Nanite

Nanite is a geometry system that allows rendering of incredibly high-fidelity virtual assets with a level of detail previously impossible in real-time rendering. It leverages the power of a virtualized geometry system to bring film-quality source art comprising hundreds of millions or billions of polygons directly into Unreal Engine. This technology allows creation of highly detailed and incredibly realistic game worlds, while enabling them to iterate quickly and efficiently.

  • Frame budgets are no longer constrained by polycounts, draw calls, and mesh memory usage

Lumen

Lumen is a real-time rendering, fully dynamic global illumination and reflections system that is designed for next-generation consoles. It is the default global illumination and reflections system.

Lumen renders diffuse interreflection with infinite bounces and indirect specular reflections in large, detailed environments at scales ranging from millimeters to kilometers.

Lumen brings robust dynamic global illumination to Unreal Engine and integrates well with other supporting systems in Unreal Engine.

Benefits:

  • Solves diffuse indirect lighting

  • It provides infinite diffuse bounces, which are important in scenes with bright diffuse materials

  • It includes sky shadowing, allowing indoor space to be much darker than outdoor lighting, providing a much more natural effect

  • Solves indirect specular, or reflections, for the full range of material roughness values

  • While Nanite allows highly detailed geometry, Lumen achieves full-resolution shading, while computing indirect lighting at a much lower resolution for real-time performance

Control Rig

Control Rig is a scriptable node-based rigging system which allows users to create custom rigs to animate characters, objects, and other assets. It is a powerful system with a visual scripting language that enables users to create flexible, dynamic, and procedural rigs with animator-friendly interfaces. And with Live Link, you can stream data from a variety of sources—even your iPhone—directly onto your characters in real time.

Control Rig can also be used for procedural animation, game logic, and other interactive elements.
